Pinkie Day is...

Well, here it is, our first Pinkie Day with the blog and a storm is coming.  Emmett, Carmen and John are so excited for Daddy to come home tonight.  However, they don't know that he is leaving again tomorrow night. He has to cut the weekend short due to the bad weather approaching.

Pinkie Day is a reason to celebrate.  What I like about Pinkie Day is that the children really have a happiness about them because it is a reason to celebrate.  Even if Daddy won't be here that long, it is still a time to think of him and feel closer to him.  Instead of nagging all day or trying to keep them busy until he comes home, we are happy that today is Pinkie Day and we know we will see him soon.  It is so hard sometimes to explain to young children exactly what is going on and how it all works.  I have already explained to Carmen that the storm is coming and it may cut the weekend short.  Pinkie Day is so great because no matter what happens with the adults' schedule, the weather, the appointments, or the interruptions in life, she has her little hand to count the days on and she knows today is special.  :)

The whole Pinkie Day concept reminds me of the children's book, The Kissing Hand, by Audrey Penn. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXT1ANWka4A.  Any little way to help a child understand the complexities of life can be such a comfort.  It can really make all the difference in their level of security and confidence.  It can stay with them forever...

Below is Emmett's video where he shares what he did for Daddy for Pinkie Day today.  HYSTERICAL!!  What an idea the Titanic is...he must have known we are getting an ice storm this weekend!  I have to say, I have taught him well.  I used to be so obsessed with the Titanic.  Anyone who knows me can attest to that.

Here is your Pinkie Day Pal video to share with your child!  Enjoy!  Please forgive the uncombed hair...I am still learning how to do this whole blogging thing and how to address all the details!
